Both have a good legacy.

Very true.
But I think that the SNES is more of an eternal console.

Both of them are eternal.

At least to me.

I said SNES because I was a wee little baby when the NES came around, but I kinda regret my choice, since the NES saved us from the videogame crisis.

Well, i know that I play my SNES almost every day. I'm obviously somewhat biased toward it. I think it has all of the fun of the NES, with better graphics and longer / more complex games.

Oh and I want to know how it is that you say the NES wins by default? Seriously that's not a good line of reasoning. When I look at the VC games to get, I would so much rather have any SNES game over an NES game.

I mean it came first in all.

So, it automatically wins in my book.

EDIT: It was also the birth of many game franchises. That's why I say it wins.

First = better?
At least this isn't NS2, or you would be trolled.

And besides, it was the birth of them, but they only got better on the SNES.

Yeah I don't think that something coming first always means it's better. Atari should be the best then. Even though you're talking Nintendo, but Atari started the way for home console video games. And I actually do think that it had some better games then the NES.

Well, I couldn't deiced, honestly.

So, I chosen the NES, because it was the start of Mario and other franchises.

Actually Mario didn't get his start on NES my dear little brother. He started out on the Atari.

Mario bros Atari 2600 - 1983
Donkey Kong Atari 2600 - 1981 (known as jumpman)
Super Mario bros NES - 1985

So yeah Atari still beats out NES for me. For legacy systems SNES > Atari > NES

Hmm tough call. But I am going with the SNES on this one, while both systems have classics that stand the test of time and are still great today the SNES just had more of them. The 16 bit era really was a true golden age of gaming.

Oh gosh...

...I'm basically (because it's me you're dealing with here) deciding between Mario 1-3 and Mario World + Yoshi's Island.

...The SNES wins.

...You were expecting something witty here? Lolz no.

A level from the game I'm designing!

I love the SNES generation of video games... FF6, SMRPG, CT, and DKC2 are just a couple of games that come to mind... But I would still have to say that the NES is my favorite system. It's so iconic.... plus, I adore all of the 8-bit music and graphics. Retro FTW. XD

I've been playing the original Legend of Zelda and Gradius on mine lately. They're awesome. ^_^

I personally prefer the SNES

It's really simple on a general scale (Especially when removing nostaglia and whatnot) :
NES is the more innovative one. It probably brought in more games that despite being considered "Outdated" By some today these games still paved the way for many series in the future. AKA the "Oh, this console did this!" In short.
SNES has however the quality on it. While it doesn't have many games like Earthbound or Super Mario RPG that tried to change the ways of some things/genre's or be groundbreaking, the games themselves had more of an emphasis on being put on long lasting most of the time and whatnot.

There's still some stuff on the NES that beats out the SNES but overall the SNES still is easy to declare a "Winner". Doesn't stop it if you have stuff you enjoy on the NES more.

It's really the ability for more complex processes which makes me prefer the SNES.
That and the saving.
