Well my guess is if there is anything it will be some sort of hint toward it at E3, like confirming it is in development and give a few little details on it. But I would not expect it to come out until late 2012 at the earliest, more like 2013 that way they give the 3DS 2 years to establish itself in the market before the next big Nintendo product comes out. Just like how the DS had 2 years to establish itself before the Wii came out.

Actually there are a lot of rumors about all three big companies showing something about there next gen systems at E3. It always leads to interesting speculation before the big show.

Eh, I'd take that with a grain of salt at this point. I've read similar speculation on the next Nintendo console for some time now.

I bet 99% it will NOT be called the Wii HD. But anyway, yeah, I've heard about this and kind of predicted it. Good thing Nintendo's getting back in touch with the hardcore gamers.

How about the 3DWii? Nah, probably not.

Ugh, it still feels like the Wii just came out to me and is still getting started. I'm not ready to drop more money on another console when the Wii still feels so new.

Well, then, how was it when Nintendo released 3 different lines of DS'? (DS, DSi, and 3DS; I don't count DS Lite or DSi XL)

I wonder how much this will cost. I'd estimate at roughly the same price as the PS3 was at launch. :v
I can't wait to see more details about this though.

Nintendo's generally not like that, though. They don't want you to burn a hole in your pocket, most of the systems are fairly reasonable within the price. I would estimate it $300 at most.

Though it would be best to wait for the details and specs to be released first before guessing prices.
Though the Wii launched at $250. I doubt something that's going to be more than 3 times as powerful is only going to be $50 more than the Wii was.

Well Slasher, hardware advances extremely fast.
Thus, something that was costly a few years ago, can be quite inexpensive now.

I shall demonstrate with computer hardware.

------
The i7 975EE processor was released last year around May-June and costed/costs about 1000 USD give or take a little bit.

The i7 2600k which was released January of this year, runs on par or faster than the 975 in most instances, idles and loads cooler, has more headroom for power increase, takes less voltage to run, and the best part~ it only costs about 320 USD.
-----

As you can see, groundbreaking technology gets phased out rather quickly, and a less expensive alternative is soon released to steal up the market.

DSi was the same console with different firmware and cameras, and by the time of the 3DS launch, the DS was due for a major update. Also I didn't mind as much since the DS also had a more developed library of games and it felt like its potential was actually used pretty well.

Soooo its a motion controller console, but the motion controller is also a touch screen.

Great job there nintendo. Combining the wii and DS.

"Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3"

Not to be a consoletard, but the PS3 is freaking POWERFUL. I'm kinda skeptical.

There's no way Nintendo would charge $500 to $600 for a console. If it's only slightly more powerful than an Xbox 360 and PS3, that says it all right there. What's a 360 go for on the low end right now? Around $200 I think. Nintendo probably won't mess with Blu-ray drives or huge hard drives that drove the cost of the PS3 up.

Remember the Wii was only slightly more powerful than the original Xbox at launch which saved money also.

Well considering Nintendo's past, chances are that the system would use there own proprietary disk format that might be similar to Blu-Ray in terms of storage space but would be it's own thing. As for price, again considering Nintendo's past I would say no more than $299.99 at launch.

I think they would probably want to see what the competition has in store. I mean x-box 360 is the oldest so if anything MicroSoft would be the next to release a console. Not only that, depending on the price point for who they are up against then Nintendo wouldn't want to set the bar so low. That's only $50 more then the 3DS and they would want to blow us out of the water.

Either way though, I haven't even enjoyed my Wii at all. Didn't like my GCN either. Since I have not enjoyed my Nintendo consoles the last 2 generations, I'll be damned if I'll buy another one. >_<

Well like I said, I personally don't think this is coming out for another 2 years (same with the next Playstation and Microsoft system) and by then I would expect the 3DS price to drop to likely 149.99 or something with likely a newer better model.

You expect it to drop $100 dollars??? Even the DSL hasn't dropped that much since it came out.

Yes well I am expecting a little bit of a tighter competition in the handheld race this time around since Sony has made some good improvements for the NGP, while I still don't think the system can beat the 3DS in sales overall, I do think it will give 3DS a much closer fight than the PSP gave the DS and Nintendo might have to do more price drops early to keep from losing too much momentum to it.
