Okay so Keatos and at least a couple other people wanted me to make a thread or whatever since I will be having an important job in the future of video game design (and hey, if I end up working at Nintendo I will try to get all my favorite members here free games <3 and if they aren't free, I'll be making enough money to buy them for you guys <3).

Anyways, unfortunately school/college does not start until the day after Labor Day, so wut. However, it is pretty interesting arriving here. Everybody is an obvious big nerd, and one of my roommates even rented the 5th Pokémon movie, Jirachi: Wishmaker and we watched it on a DVD using a PS3. And just for those of you wondering, no I did not request this and had no idea he rented the DVD.

What I'm really excited for is the fact that Nintendo of America allows DigiPen Institute of Technology to use SDK/Software Development Kits for both the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo Gamecube. So basically, if I am ever assigned a project to make a GBA game, group or solo, I'll (maybe?) upload the final result here.

I say (maybe?) though because uploading ROM's is not allowed much less than talking about them, but if it is a game you literally made yourself (with Nintendo's SDK which they are freely allowing you to use), my guess is that it might be okay.

Also here and [url=http://i.imgur.com/R8LHL.jpg]here are two quick pictures I took of the opening of the movie we watched. It brings back so much memories. Memories that were made like a few months ago when I watched it as a part of my mission to watch all the Pokémon episodes. :'D

I want pictures of the college hahaha

But yeah that has to be pretty exciting! And I would say that the staff shouldn't mind the game share under those conditions. You'll just have to keep updating us as you go through school.

Pretty awesome.
I've been wanting to get into video game designing stuff, but it would be very unlikely for me to get a job with it. Like how Nintendo probably wouldn't hire anyone who doesn't go to DigiPen. And I'm sure other big companies are hard to get into as well for it. My other option would have been to create my own video game company, but in this economy, it would probably be shut down right away from lack of funding and the competition from the other companies are so huge that I wouldn't be able to catch up.
So I'm basically stuck doing other things, like possible web design/developing and/or graphic arts.

Anyways, enough of my rambling.
I hope you succeed, and be sure to make us some great games. :D
I also want to see pictures of the college. :v

I actually haven't been to the college yet, only the apartment. :P

However, "DigiPen Day" or whatever it is called is today where new students and parents/family/friends get to get a tour of the building and meet the professors and there is a pizza party afterwords. So I'll be sure to bring my DSi and take crappy photos there.

Also just remembered, that my parents are giving me like $240 a month for food, so I think I'll just like spend at least half that much and save up food money I don't spend to get a semi-nice camera.

@Rhyme: Alright I will try my best to keep this updated. Every day should be an interesting one (e.g. Shigeru Miyamoto visited today and gave out free signed Wii U's),except the example probably would never happen and is just extreme wishful thinking. XD

@Slasher: Most of the people Nintendo hire are from DigiPen, though I believe Full Sail is also is a good college. They focus more on arts stuff IIRC, but Full Sail is also way down in Florida.

Hahaha yeah keep dreaming with that one Leif! But seriously this is so wicked awesome for you and I'm excited for you! I can't wait to hear about some of the things you learn and what programs you get to use and stuff. You're really quite talented with things so this should be quite an interesting thread to read when you do update.

what classes did you take in high school for this stuff? And lucky you, you get SDK kits to use! Aren't they, like, $100 a year, or is that just for Apple's SDK kits for their App Stores?

You're a beautiful human being. Did I ever tell you that? Well now I have. I just...had to let you know for um, no reason. Nope. None.

Also, cool. Sounds like you'll have a lot of fun there. I'd like to do some game. Hope you have a good year man, I'll keep my eye out for a Leif working for Nintendo in the future. ;)

Also yeah, post some pictures of this nerd heaven college.

You can still use Apple's SDK without paying. You only pay if you want to actually compile and sell your software in the Mac App Store. I have the dev kit myself (an older version, unfortunately).

Also, Mage would be using the SDK for Gamecube and GameBoy Advance, which are outdated now, so I doubt they'd charge.

Yes you are correct. The information I received was outdated and DigiPen now uses the SDK's to the Nintendo DS and Wii.

I'll probably make an RPG for my final project. RPG's aren't really that hard to make because everything is typically event-based, and user menus are relatively simple. Of course, I'm talking about turn-based RPG's here. Real-time RPG's or RTS' take a bit (or lot) more time and effort.

Also, expect characters such as these to be in my future game:

MPTM: Probably your teacher. But as the horribly cliché plot goes, your village gets burned down, he dies, you swear to avenge your mentor's death, blah blah blah. Okay plot sucks I'll think of another one.
Keatos: Owns a plot of land and names it Daughter Krussia land or something like that.
Slasher: The weapons master because his name is like slash as in slashing swords and stuffs.
WingedYoshi: Like the final boss and will probably be literally impossible to beat. Unless you grind levels for 100 hours and get the Infinity Plus One Sword. Then you might have about a 20% chance of beating him.
Rhyme: An art dealer. Buy art from her to boost stats and such. Think of those vitamins from the Pokémon games.

And yeah just a rough sketch. It's just fun for me to think ahead. Of course, I don't want to get too ahead of myself and become disappointed later on.

One final thing, "DigiPen Day" was actually yesterday on Saturday. It was supposed to be today on Sunday but they made a last minute schedule change during the time I was traveling on the road (probably when I was in barren plains Montana). I'll be going in for financial aid stuff tomorrow, so I'll try to get some pictures with my DSi then.

Pffff if he rented Jirachi Wishmaker on his own it seems like you have a roommate you have a lot in common with. :'D How many roommates do you have? What's your apartment like?

Okay cameras are about $100. It's definitely easy to be cheap on food (buy at grocery stores instead of eating out).

I've actually heard a lot of bad things about Full Sail. It's expensive and not very many people get into the industry, or if they do it's a bad job. Digipen might be the best "video game college" out there right now. I'm not sure if it's true that most Nintendo employees went to Digipen... Especially since the college only came about in the late 1980s.

Also I better be the best character in your entire game.

I've got four other roommates, all guys of course. One is from Columbia (the country from South America), who is the guy that rented Jirachi Wish Maker and also brought some fried ants because I guess that's a delicacy in Columbia. :'D

The other three are from Maine, Idaho, and I'm not sure where the last one is from.

My parents are giving me money to budget; a bit over $500 because it's about $250/month for rent (utilities are not included, so the cost may go up and down throughout the months) and around $240/month for food ($8 day = $56 week = $224 month and add a couple days). Any money left over from each month is mine to keep.

I plan on doing exactly as you say, eat cheap and maybe skip some breakfasts (yeah I know "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" but tons of people get by just fine without it, or perhaps I'll just eat a pop tart or energy bar).

You are also correct in saying that most Nintendo employees did not attend DigiPen. While DigiPen and Nintendo have a very good relationship, most students do whatever they feel like doing (or do whatever job they find that is open) which usually means working for a different company.

I have heard that Nintendo gets "first pick" of the students at DigiPen of the student is willing or wanting to work for them. But then again, I have also heard that is simply a rumor.

I was going to congratulate you and tell you that it's fun to read a thread like this and that I hope you keep it up to date, because it's really pretty interesting, but I'm not a character in your game so nevermind then. :C

Hmm...

DE-CHAN: While Keatos is the High Sovereign Queen of Daughter Krussia, DE-CHAN rules by her side as the High Sovereign King.

I HOPE U HAPPY NOW!

It is great to hear everything has been working out for you already. It sure sounds like an awesome place to be for any gamer. Stay dedicated, work hard and I know you will rise up there. Imagine, MageLeif working for Nintendo. That would be cool.
Anyways, this will be a fascinating thread indeed, I will have to check on your progress in the future.

I've actually met one person today that just graduated from DigiPen about three months ago under the Real Time Interactive Simulation degree. He said that there is only five things he ever did: Eat, Sleep, Breathe, Shower, and Work.

RTIS is the most difficult of all of the degrees it seems, so I will have to sacrifice video/computer game time for Nintendo Pipeline time BECAUSE IMPORTANT THINGS FIRST!!

But yeah, that's pretty awesome that you get to do all that stuff, and your roommate sounds pretty cool already. Good luck with everything!

Probably just a regular old BS in Game Design. Nothing fancy, really. I could get it a bunch of different places (And I will be applying to a bunch of different places to do so), but it'd be nice to get it there.

You should think about going to DigiPen anyways even if they do accept you. Their hiring rate is like 80% and it's a really highly accredited college. Classes are tough yeah, but yours would probably be like a cakewalk compared to mine. :'0
