With the 7th generation of consoles beginning to come to a close that of course will bring us to the 8th generation of consoles. We all know about the Wii U already, but lately a lot of rumors have been coming up about the next generation consoles from Microsoft & Sony.

So I figured we might as well have a thread dedicated to all the rumors and such that have been coming out about them and a place to talk and share our opinions on them.

It seems this previous generation had a lot of bumps in the road. Sony's been getting hacked, Nintendo ( In my opinion anyway) Has been lacking in games but they did have some good ones, Microsoft seems to still deliver as far as games are concerned, but I hope they fix the RRoD issue with their next system. As far as games for Sony, I think they did okay, but in all honesty we won't know until we actually buy then sit down, stand, etc to play them.

But I can see with all those bumps in the road that there is a very good possibility for gaming to go the next step higher. Although I'm not really sold on the Wii U, though. Just my opinion again, it looks like a spare controller on steroids, but again, too soon to tell for sure. XD

But isn't Sony only the forth generation and the xbox is on it's 3rd generation? So yeah I'm not sure what to expect. More focus on how they are multi-media products and not just gaming consoles.

LOL no generation of consoles include all consoles released in an era, it does not matter when the maker entered into the market. Whatever era they entered into is the generation there system is apart of.

Anyways, time for a rumor for discussion. This one is about the next X-Box. It is rumored the device will require a constant internet connection, have a Blu-Ray type disk drive, have 2 GPUs, come out Christmas 2013, and come built in with a next gen version of Kinect.

Well I like the idea of having a kinect built in... but a constant internet connection. I hope this doesn't force people to have to have a gold membership and this crap better have wifi built in so you don't have to freaking go out and spend $60-$100 for an adapter. Though I already have one so no worries for me.

I'm actually really curious to see what Microsoft and Sony bring to the future within the next few years. Yeah Nintendo is getting a massive upgrade, but something tells me that they'll still be behind by the time Sony and Microsoft release their consoles.

Well newer model 360s do have built in WiFi so I doubt that will be a problem. But yeah having a constant internet connection to work does sound like something that could be a bit problematic. I remember earlier this gen one time when PSN was down for a while some PS3 games were not able to work because they needed a PSN connection to work even in single player.

I have a feeling Nintendo will be behind too, not just in hardware capabilities but what software and online they'll offer.

I heard the PS4 will truly offer a 4D experience this time around, that way it can travel back in time and make the PS3 not suck as much.

Well that and for someone like me that has a poor connection at times depending on the activity in my house, I would hate to be playing a game and then suddenly loose connection and have to do over hours of game time. >_<

Speaking of the PS4 there was that set of rumors last week that got everyone talking.

Apparently the system is codenamed Orbis, will launch sometime in late 2013 (Sony is hoping before the next X-Box), will apparently not make use of the Cell Processor the PS3 used hence won't be backwards compatible with the PS3, and the one that is getting everyone talking is that the system will have anti used game measures built in where games will be tied to PSN accounts.

Huh, that's all Sony needs right now. No BC and anit-used game measures. I think they're just trying to piss people off now. It's not a matter of getting out of touch anymore.

I hope that isn't true.

Well that would seal it for me. I would definitely NOT get a PS4 if either of those are implemented and especially if both are. Most times I buy my games used, if I get a new sony system I would want to play Graces F on it along with any other games that I might have missed since the PS3 wasn't worth it. Seriously they mine as well shot themselves in the head right now!

Yeah I think that is pretty much the opinion of everyone so far about that rumor. While it still is just a rumor, I would not put it past Sony to be considering something like that.

I read in a thread on another forum about another rumor for the 360. Turns out that they two plan to implement that the system will tie games to your gamer tag and you can not play the full game if you buy the game used. This is also being said for the PS4. You can still play a used game, but not the full game.

If this is the case, the wiiU might be the only system I get next generation. I seriously hope this is not what the gaming world is coming to.

Also another thing I thought about too. Of what benefit is it to the console company that we buy all new games? Unless it's a first party game where they own the rights or if it's a system exclusive I don't see how the company would benefit at all. They don't make profits off of new games by third party developers so what should they care if we buy used games?

If I was to speculate as to why they might be doing this is to cater to the 3rd party developers who have been making attempts over the years to cut down on used game sales since they don't make a profit from them.

They have done lots of things that have pissed off gamers like activation codes and such for online play, or not allowing you to delete the previous save data off of a cart. Over the years many of them have tried various things to cut down on used game sales.

3rd party developers are just getting greedy if you ask me, in no other entertainment medium do you see creators so hell bent of taking down used sales as with games over recent years. You don't see movie studios complaining about FYE selling used movies. But yeah I do hope that these rumors are just rumors since if something like that got implamented I know many gamers would be pissed off about it.

Well perhaps if they lowered the cost of games we wouldn't have to resort to buying used. Or if there were more games being sold as a special value because they sold so well at first then more people would buy them. But $60 each time someone wants a game is freaking crazy. Especially in this economy. Normally there are around 5 or 6 games a year I really want and I'm willing to buy new, but I buy around 10 games a year total and trade in around the same amount. I don't have $600+ tax to spend on games each year. -_-

Yes I know, the price of new titles these days and the economy sure does make used games a increasingly more viable option. While I do understand that some of these games do cost more to make than they used to, you would think they would be more focused on making the development cost less rather than just focus on finding ways to get more money out of the consumer.

Anyways, another subject this gets me thinking about is digital distrabution. We saw quite a bit of it this gen with downloadable games for all 3 systems. I get the feeling this is going to just get bigger next gen. Thankfully none have said they will go digital only yet, still that is one thing I do worry about. While I have a pretty decent internet connection and would not have too much a problem downloading games, having just digital as the only way to get games worries me, especially after the whole PSN hack thing.

Yeah my connection sucks so buying digitally isn't really an option. I know when I downloaded Maple Story that took me 6-8 hours. Also this actually will put places like gamefly out of business. If it happens and continues on in this direction no one will be able to rent games anymore to try them out.

Yeah that is one thing that likely will suffer quite a bit. While I don't rent games anymore myself, I know a lot of people who do and enjoy having services like Gamefly. Without them all we are left with are demos or trial versions for download and those can be too short a lot of the time and like anything digital, if your connection sucks can take a while to download.

FFXIII-2 was quite extensive, but sadly you can't save and I got bored playing it.
