I'm nor conservative nor democrat. I vote for what I think is right. We might all be better that way, if everyone just voted for what they believe and leave everyone else alone, not criticizing them for what they are saying. Then all would be fine.

The fact that people even address Ann Coulter's comments speaks volumes for how much we still have to grow as a society...

Ohhh I don't know what it is about her, but I just can't stand her!

Yes. That's probably it.
Her attitude just comes off as being stuck-up, sarcastic, and stupid. Sometimes I just want to slap that sarcastic little look off of her face every time I see her on TV.

Meh, she annoys me because she's obviously just being so extreme to make mega bucks, and it works.

I can't stand people in the media trying to be fake just to make money.

I can't stand the media in general. Between the obvious biases, over-sensationalized stories only seeming interesting to attract viewers, the lack of focus on important issues, made up cultural wars simply because people's opinions are changing, straight up lying to get more viewers, etc. I just have no desire to watch TV News. I just don't see any point. :/ I guess the internet is arguably just as bad, but that's why I try to be careful about what sources I trust (unsubbed from r/politics rather quickly, r/worldnews has barely stayed on my subscriptions list).

I completely agree. I am finding it awful how the media can take a tragedy and absolutely eat it up. These people are GRIEVING. They don't need cameras in their faces or people asking them questions to get more information for their gossip-hungry viewers. Take it from someone that HAS to hear Fox News all day. And I mean nearly all day because my husband's grandpa watches it from the time he gets up till the time he goes to bed at full volume so that you can hear it all over the house. Most of what the media wants is to instill fear onto the American people because they think that if they scare us, then we'll believe them when they say that the only way to stay safe is to listen to what they have to say. I try to say a prayer for people grieving regardless, but I can't say that I want to sit and listen to every little new development that comes out of a tragedy. Case in point: the Casey Anthony trial. I hate when the media gets involved in big trials because you know they've got to have some effect on jurors and witnesses who happen to go home and watch national news at the end of the day and see what the media is saying.

Phew my fingers hurt. Somebody want to tell me how to put my posts as a spoiler so people don't have to read my useless rants?

This is not a useless rant; it's a side discussion relevant to the original intent of the topic. And the spoiler tags are [ spoiler] [/ spoiler] without the spaces wrapped around the text for future reference.
But anyways, yeah. My annoyance lately has been the Trayvon Martin case. Yes, it was sad, but who gives crap? I think it's sad that he was very likely racially profiled by the Zimmerman dude and murdered etc., but that is the only angle from which the case should be relevant. IT IS NOT IMPORTANT TO THE OVERALL STATE OF THE WORLD. Yeah, the kid died, and it's sad, but the sad thing is people die all the time. Unless you're relating the story to other cases and talking about ways to change things so it won't happen again, it's really not relevant unless it is a gigantic tragedy (see: 9/11, etc.).
The problem is, what people want to hear is the sensationalized stories. Complicated political issues are very hard to understand, so instead of putting effort into trying to simplify it for the average and below average minds of the country, the media finds it easier to just make a story that really isn't relevant at all seem relevant. It's all for ratings, and like you said, they gain so many ratings by scaring people in the way you described. It's disgusting.

Thank you. I'll remember that one. :)
Yes, that case is driving me up the wall, too. I can't decide whether we're meant to believe that Zimmerman racially profiled Martin or what happened. There's really no use putting trials on public display so much. This kind of stuff happens all over the country. They can't possibly report on every major murder trial, so why display one? All it shows is that there is still a good deal of racism left in this country. It isn't right in the slightest bit. And I really do wish that they would use these stories and show examples on what we can do to prevent these things from happening... i.e. teaching us warning signs of a potential pyschopath so that we can maybe do something to help the person get help before something like Virgina Tech, for instance, happens again. But other than that, there's no use sitting around watching the news coverage all day. It isn't going to change anything that happened. We can pray for the people, but no amount of media coverage is going to make it any better.
I can't take credit for the idea of the media scaring people. Actually I had an English teacher in college last fall semester that (often got off topic a lot during class...) was telling us about this one day. I'm not sure if half the room thought he was high or not, but I agreed with what he had to say. I never really thought of it like that before, but that's how it's starting to seem. Have you seen the commercials advertising a "very wealthly businessman" that has made all these big financial predictions and now he has a really BIG one that will change how we're gonna live and yadda yadda and he wants us to go online and watch his free video and yadda yadda. Scare tactic. I feel bad for little old ladies that aren't right in their minds that are scared to death because some of the stuff they hear on TV.
/Unrelated to Topic/ Honestly, if it was up to me, I wouldn't have a TV. I used to think families had to be pretty sheltered not to have one (my high school english teacher...), but I'm starting to see not having one as very beneficial, not to mention saving a good deal of money.
