This is a thread to show appreciation to the wonderful knock-off Squirtle toy I got in San Francisco's China Town. It was originally $3.99, but when I seemed uninterested the shopkeeper said "For you, a discount of $2.99" and while still overpriced (this thing can't be worth more than $0.50) it was GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.

Now let me show you this beautiful specimen.

wowowowow hot a what a squirtle. San Francisco is in the background. I just love how EVERY color is wrong. And what's with the faded gold paw prints? WHy is there even gold on it anyways? I JUST. CAN'T. IT'S SO GOOD.

Posted Image

Here's a front and back view. You can see its excellent paint job here. Blue stomach, red/gold/black eyes (some of the color is rubbed off), gold paw prints (the bottom finger is gone/very faint on both hands), gold shell boarder, black shell, and white (unpainted) skin. Doing some minor research, I think the mold is based on a Burger King toy, but it's not exact. It's also pretty old, from 1999. I can only wonder what this little Squirtle has gone through to reach San Francisco 13 years later.

Posted Image

It's hollow with a hole on the top and bottom, the top one being a bit smaller. The bottom hole has a removable cover, but I don't think I want to try to take it off. I'm not even sure how I would do it, there isn't much room to grip it.

Of course I can't help but adore this figure. Definitely the best $3.12 (including tax) I've spent (or made my mom spend) ever.

I'm probably going to try to get an in-game Squirtle based on this one, even if I can't exactly get a white Squirtle. I decided on female and shiny would probably make the most sense, but getting a female shiny Squirtle sounds near impossible. ;_; Oh well. Not quite sure what to name her yet. I thought about Kimmy for some reason even though I'm not too fond of that name, but maybe it is DESTINY??? HELP ME DECIDE!

I made some sprites though.

What was the point of this thread even. IDK GUSH OVER MY SQUIRTLE I LOVE IT.

HOLY CRAP THAT IS TOO AWESOME. <3

Kimmy is a pretty good name; I have a cousin named Kim who had a few pet turtles so I don't really have any objections.

...I'll buy it from you for $80

I KNOW I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

I might stick with Kimmy. Seems a bit normal (especially for a badass white Squirtle) but I guess that's okay.

NEVER would you really though

I have the original mold of the burger king toy. It's more of a keychain though, probably why there's a top hole. It also has a hole on the bottom for idkw. Except yours looks like a hard plastic and mine is like a hard rubber that you can squeeze (might be the reason for the bottom hole, to be able to squeeze it?). Mine is all the right colors, but yours is so off-colored that it's more special and unique. :v

That's pretty dang cool. Most unique Squirtle I've ever seen!

Perhaps the paint machine screwed up in the painting of this little guy and maybe about 50 of his friends that were later discarded? That would make it seemingly rare, wouldn't it? Like concert posters that were printed with the wrong dates.

Slasher, I've seen holes like this on other cheap plastic toys. I think it's to let the air out when they're molding it and making it hollow. Mine's hard plastic because it's probably cheaper to make.

And I don't think it's really rare since it's a bootleg (therefore illegally made and virtually worthless, unlike an official concert poster that happens to be misprinted). As for the coloring, I think it was hand painted (the little mistakes in it seem like human error rather than machine error) but I dunno where they got the palette. I think maybe the painter was told which colors Squirtle was (the blue on its stomach looks like it could be the skin, the gold looks like it could be the shell), but weren't exactly told which color goes where... O_O

I feel bad for the worker who made this toy, a bootleg factory in 1999 China couldn't have been a pleasant place to be, but... I just can't help but love how wrong the Squirtle turned out to be. ;_;

Only if they are as miscolored as this one.

If any of you people live in or near a city with a China Town you all should go on the lookout for miscolored bootleg Pokemon toys.

Significantly miscolored, that is. Sometimes you can find one that just has a strange shade or a bad paint job but it's otherwise (about) the right color. Everyone, go out and find a pink Pikachu, a blue Bulbasaur, a red Rhyhorn.

I just thought that I should say that yesterday I had a nightmare that I was sleeping in water with my bootleg, and when I woke up in my dream I looked at my bootleg squirtle and the paint had washed off. Its eyes were now white and its body was showing paint underneath it which was the normal Squritle colors. Truly horrifying.

ALSO I got the Burger King Squirtle (among other Pokemon toys) and I found that the Burger King toy is slightly bigger and might not actually be the mold for it... but I dunno, it's the closest one I could find.

Oh wow really, could you take a picture of it? :'D I wonder if it's the "original" version, since this is a bootleg.

PURDUE ON THE BACK AND PENN STATE ON THE FRONT..... maybe this is a college football squirtle.

Far, far too late.... I would agree with you, but something this hilariously awful has to be an exception.
