Mother/EarthBound series

GUYS WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE MOTHER SERIES
I'm playing them right now and they're really great. I beat Mother 3 a few years ago and now I'm playing through both Mother (Mother 1+2 GBA fan translation, easy ring) and EarthBound.
Mother 3 is probably one of my favorite games ever. It's just.... wow. ;_; It has an amazing story and I just love its quirky, sad, and funny writing. The battle system is pretty great and I love the music and characters. A+ game.
EarthBound is great so far, but very different from Mother 3. It's appeal lies in the fact that it is a quirky modern day RPG, not Mother 3's gigantic sprawling plot. At least so far. I really like the innocent and quirky (I use that word too much already) writing and the weird but normal (???) situations. Right now I'm in Threed.
Mother (1) is another great game. I really like the music and the plot starts up very interestingly. I'm really interested to see where it goes. It's really similar to EarthBound, but it's starting to feel a little different already. Right now I'm in the Zoo.
SO how do you people feel about this wonderful series.

About a year or so ago, I played through Mother 3, but I stopped playing before I got to experience the "last part of the game". I remember someone telling me that after the credits, you can still control Lucas and talk with people and such, but I lost my save file before I was able to do that so I started playing again about a month ago.

Earthbound was fantastic. I really enjoyed the humor, and overall found it to be basically a funnier, more modern Dragon Quest. And I like Dragon Quest.
I loved Mother 3. I was one of those oddballs who not only played it before the translation patch came out, but bought it from play-asia. Fun game, even if I couldn't understand moonspeak.
Overall, though, a great series.

Have you given the fan translation with the easy ring a try? It takes virtually all grinding out of the game and the writing is more charming than it was in the poorly written EarthBound (Zero) for NES. I'm actually enjoying it a fair amount.I tried playing Mother 1. Eh... too archaic.
Mother 3 is pretty impressive as far as sprite games go. It's very colorful with a lot of animation. It was one of the last GBA games so it uses a lot of the handheld's power.I haven't played any of them ever and sadly i think it's a bit too late for me to get into them since I'm a huge graphics whore. I still haven't played Chrono Trigger for that reason and i have that game.

1 and 3 are IMPOSSIBLE to get a legal working copy in English (well, a few carts of English EarthBound Zero exist, but it's probably in the single digits) and EarthBound is extraordinarily expensive. All three games have a near zero chance of being rereleased on the Virtual Console or being made as a remake. The game look like a ton of fun. I played a parody of it once too, which was also fun. I just can't seem to be able to get my hands on a copy, and I don't want to cheat :v
If you want to support the series though, buy Mother 1+2 and Mother 3 for the GBA. They are both in Japanese but you will now own the game and you can do whatever you like with it.

I'd assume buy the game and then get a rom to play it on the comp XD
I'm just going to play devil's advocate here.
According to Nintendo's legal information, it doesn't matter if you own the game or not, you aren't legally allowed to own a virtual copy of the game unless you yourself dumped the ROM from your own physical copy, so technically you aren't allowed to do whatever you want.
Oh well, Nintendo hasn't raised any flags against the fan-translation of Mother 3 which is really awesome on their part. But like Keatos said, you can certainly support the Mother series by buying the game boy advance cartridge.
Perhaps Nintendo doesn't want to translate because they are already aware of the fan-translation, and they fear that many people had already played through the English version and won't buy an official English version if released by Nintendo themselves. Even though I'm sure many fans will be more than willing to purchase an official English version, in Nintendo's eyes, it's too risky of a business decision.

Nintendo of America is aware of the fan translation. They actually invited the guys at Starmen.net (who did the translation) to their offices a few years ago and asked them how the translation was going. In other words, they really don't seem to care that the game has been translated and is being played with ROMs/Emulators.
Of course, a ton of people who played the translation actually imported a physical copy of the game as well (myself included).
I could discuss MOTHER forever, but I'll just leave a simple comment - I love MOTHER2 and MOTHER3 (haven't actually played 1, but I own a Famicom cartridge for it). They are fantastic games everyone should play.

I think it's more of legal issues (the Mother series has references that can fly by in Japan, but in the US has more copyright hurdles) and they believe that it doesn't have a big enough audience. Which is kinda silly so it's probably the legal issues. I really don't think a fan translation is stopping them so much since fan translations aren't accessible to those computer savvy. The ones who do care about Mother so much they would play a fan translation of it would probably buy the real game, too. EarthBound had legal issues too making it so it couldn't be released on the VC so Mother 3 probably has the same issue. I'm not quite sure about Mother 1.Perhaps Nintendo doesn't want to translate because they are already aware of the fan-translation, and they fear that many people had already played through the English version and won't buy an official English version if released by Nintendo themselves. (You should discuss Mother forever!) But you really own the cartridge? Just for collector's value or do you actually plan on playing it?I could discuss MOTHER forever, but I'll just leave a simple comment - I love MOTHER2 and MOTHER3 (haven't actually played 1, but I own a Famicom cartridge for it). Mother 1 is dated but fun, I'm enjoying the fan translation. I kinda like how the melodies make more sense... Instead of "awakening" in you, creatures or music boxes sing to you. At least so far (I have 3).

Mostly for collector's value. I consider myself a video game collector (but I only collect things that I like). Real life has gotten in the way of collecting since I can no longer drop a hundred dollars on a hard-to-find video game whenever I feel like it (that's how much my Super NES copy of Earthbound cost me, but I was a teenager with no expenses at the time).
The only MOTHER game I do not have is the GBA remake of 1+2. I'll get it someday, but the prices have skyrocketed (in other words, I should have bought it a long time ago and kept putting it off).
I have no way of playing MOTHER1 right now (maybe someday I'll have a Famicom), but I have played my Japanese copy of MOTHER2 and and MOTHER3. I actually almost beat MOTHER3 entirely in Japanese (which I do not understand). You lose the whole story playing that way, but it's still a fun game (and more challenging). I actually reached a point where I am clueless about where to go or what to do thanks to my lack of Japanese-language skills.
I've played the fan translation, but not nearly as far as I played the cartridge.

Well, guys?
As much as you guys, I love the Mother/Earthbound series, with a passion! The quirky humor, references, characters, setting, already makes me want to play it again.

And I saw that interview. I mean it's good that they're talking about Mother 3 and realize that it has a market in the West, but... nothing actually was said.
