Anybody here have any favorites? I'm a particularly large fan of arcades, I don't get to play in them that often, but it's always so fun when I do. I like smashing everyone else's highscore.

Strikers 1945 series is my absolute favorite. It has so much skill to it. And so many deep choice mechanics for a side scrolling shooter.

My favorite is Arctic Thunder. It is....gloriously entertaining. And it blows air in your face.

Lol that does look cool.

Speaking of arcade racing games, I'd have to say my favorite one is a game called Ballistic. You played it lying down on your back. It was very relaxing.

How many DDR champs are here? XD

I will ravage DDR on the highest difficulty, but that's because we didn't have too many better games in our local arcade.

I got reeeeaaally good at soul calibur that way, transferred over to SCII on the gamecube pretty well. I'll school you with voldo.

Also pretty good at After Burner, but I don't know if that's widespread or anything, I grew up with it on the NES and have every singe high score on it at the spokane valley arcade back home.

Ugh, I'm so bad at DDR, haha. I used to netplay Turtles in Time all the time with a few of my friends, I really enjoy that game.

In all honesty I've only played DDR once. And it was the Disney version Konami made.

I've always wanted to play on those DDR machines against someone, and have an epic DDR battle like they do in animes and such. *shot*

Well there is always Step Mania on the PC, which is free. Or so I heard.

How about Shmups? Anyone played those?

I used to play flash flash revolution or something like that for days on end. Back in my dial-up days when I had to wait an hour to load a song to play.

Never heard of shmups.

A shmup is anything with tons of bullets and stuff. Like Touhou.

Three categories be:

Vertical Scrolling Shmup, Like Touhou, Raiden, Strikers 1945.

Side Scrolling Shmup, like Gradius or R-Type.

And Run and Gun games like Metal Slug and Contra.

You've heard of it. Just not what the genre is actually called.

Oh, I've always considered those curtain shooters/shoot 'em ups. That's the first time I've heard the term shmup used for them. :v

haha yes, Shoot'em-ups. it's a super short way to say it.

Either that or bullet hell, but some folks don't like to call it that for obvious PG reasons.

I love playing them in arcades though, I cried tears of manly joy when I saw Strikers 1945 was in my local Mazzio's. That game is super rare nowadays.

The best arcade I've been to was Galloping Ghost. $15 bucks to get in and play any arcade machine you want for free for as long as you want. It has absolutely everything. I believe I saw Strikers 1945 there too.

The machines are just lined up and seem to never end, as can be seen in This video

We have a few places like that. There is a good one up in Austin. It has a HyperSpin machine with about 50 Capcom games on it including MegaMan the Power Fighters.

I wish I had a few quarters right now. I really would love and play a bit. XD
